Steve, the book "Secrets of Solo Racing," by Henry A. Watts is pretty good. Even though it covers AutoX and Time Trials, there is a lot of basic info that is very useful to read...driving basics, turns and shifting, optimizing the complete course, preparing your car (not necessarily modifying it), tires, and preparing yourself.
I only have one DE track day and a couple of HPDC's, so I'm nearly in the same spot as you. You're best preparation will be the high performance driving clinic. The other reading is nice, but if you're like me, the first time out there you'll find that you have way more inputs than you can process, and you'll only focus on the one's of most immediate importance. |
