But I'm sorry if I offended any of you $100,000+ watch owners.

it's the same type of "mechanical appeal" that draws us to the aircooled motors

LOL

The best solution in that case would be to make my own. I could probably bastardize a swatch watch to have a custom 1 of 3 face.

Interesting idea . . . maybe it is time to put the old architectural rendering skills back into use. Maybe I could use one of those ultra thin screens to display a .gif or something . . .

Well now you're talking my language. Design superiority with equivalent pricing is easy to understand.

Todd, why don't you talk to a jeweler/watchmaker? People have jewelry made all the time....has to be a similarity. Or pick the twin you like better.

I have actually worked with jewelers before. I designed my wife's wedding and engagement rings. They are made out of a single piece of metal without any prongs. 1 of 1. Can't get any more custom than that. Now, with respect to the twin idea, if I have a hard time telling them apart, how can I pick which one I like better?

Did you see Pulp Fiction? Be sure to get small watches!

Funny!

For me it is not so much a matter of relative cost but it is a matter of cost obscenity without added true use. For many people it is conspicuous consumption regardless of what reason the owner might have purchased it for.

There is the, I think, wonderful art component to many of the upper end watches and even far more so to clocks. There is a rich history to clocks in general. I have many books on clocks and watches and have long been a clock geek spending much time learning about them. You can map the rise of civilization through time keeping methods from counting sand grains to oscillations of cesium. I spent this last Sat night going through and rebuilding a mantle clock from 1902 that I got a little while ago. A common farm type clock that would be of the quaility sold in Wal-Mart today but an interesting clock in how it and the case were made and the compromises taken to make it affordable yet it still works over 100 years later and works well considering the many hours it has counted off. I also have a 2 year old digital clock that tunes into the Ft Collins cesium 7 clock. That is the one I look at when I want to know what time it is.

i like the fact that some guy sat there w/ tweezers and a magnifying glass to assemble the mechanism.... not unlike the stuttgart guys assembling our cars. the cars are not the fastest, nor most reliable, just like the watches are not the most accurate, but there is a quaintness about the machinery that appeals to me.

No doubt, I don't know how they do it. Some of the parts are so small they are hard to see much less make. The clear back ones are a fav of mine.
