Why is this discussion still going on? No one will beat Jerry's prices.

I guess that would depend on how broadly you define criminal. He did a PPI for me (in FL) on a 944 turbo that Vertex rebuilt(motor, drivetrain). His PPI indicated that the car was in very good mechanical condition and there were no problems with the engine or drivetrain.

I began to suspect otherwise when it wouldn't start after being dropped off by the carrier service. That was really no big deal, just a loose alternator ground.

My suspicions were confirmed when Curry's did the state inspection, it failed with flying colors.

I called Vertex (Gilbert) to discuss this since he gave the car a clean bill of health and then proceeded to advise me that I was being very picky and I should not expect a used car to be perfect.

The half shafts on a 951 have 6 bolts on each end, the tranny end was fine but on the wheel side one of them had one bolt tightened, two missing and three broken off. The other had two finger tight, two missing and two broken.

The bottom rear of the car was cut out I guess to facilitate...something and then patched back in by a crew of toddlers. The clutch (brand new "twin turbo" set up and newly installed according to Gilbert when I called) evaporated after about 25 miles of driving. There was a golf ball sized hole cut out of the bell housing for...something. The list of my "nit picks" goes on.

Not all of the problems with the car were his fault. The pics I got showed brand new Toyo Proxes on the car, when I got it it has one badly word Toyo, one badly worn Goodyear GSC and two pep boys specials. The locking lug nut was broken off the left front wheel and the remaining lug nut material was just a round aluminum blob.

I was talking to Ian Riley at Ians auto parts and he actually got the Mesa boys their start in the business. They rebuilt his son's 951 and it didn't even make it home. Ian purchased a 911 at an auction and drove it to Vertex for some minor work. When he went to pick it up it wouldn't move, it seems all the items that usually reside inside the transmission were removed and sold. Oops.

Maybe it doesn't make him a criminal but his is most certainly a punk ass bitch.

Great to put a mental picture in your mind when you go to buy stuff off the internet!
Asside from the knowledge gained on some of the boards, the real picture is very different than advertised.
I guess I've been lucky!

So they cleaned out the tranny of a car in for service?
Too funny....Sounds more like an urban legend.

Vertex has always been good to me, but I don't bother with anyone else now that we have Jerry. His prices are the best and free shipping. Why go anywhere else?

So Rick, is Jerry servicing your size 11 of just paying you off?
You did get me to click in his site. It's starting to come together nicely!

Not a paid endorser, just a real cheapskate and Jerry has the best prices hands down. I don't care if anyone orders from him, but it's pretty silly to get into a debate about Vertex when there are plenty of cheaper vendors out there with less seedy reputations.
