I'm not so sure. Walking around the hood with that watch on his wrist might get him killed quicker.

Another thread resurrection...

I need a watch repaired. My Tag automatic seems to have an issue with the second hand. Rotates fine when level, but on an incline, it spins freely. Still keeping time which is a good sign.

Anyone have a preferred/trusted repair guy? It's not an Omega so I'd rather avoid a repair guy who drives a Bentley.

More info please. What is the model. Are we talking subseconds or sweeping. Mechanical or quartz.

The Tag automatic is a sub second mechanical movement powered by human motion. Does Tag do quartz??

Model is the 2000 Classic MK2117-1.

Actually, that is a sweeping seconds which means the seconds hand "sweeps" the entire dial. A subsecond watch would have subdial or little dial for the seconds. Yes Tag does quartz, lots of them actually.

The movement is very likely a Eta 2824 which is a VERY common workhorse movement. I suspect your issue is that the friction fitment of the seconds pinion has become loose. Literally any competent mechanical watchmaker should be able to perform the repair. I'd offer to do it, but I am scared of removing and replacing hands.

Ah.. I thought subsecond was referring to the 4 ticks it makes every second as suppose to a continuous sweep which does not stop ever. I dun learnt sumdin todayr!

So, don't use solder is what I'm hearing..

Anyone around the DC area (}{) that likes watches (}{) know of a good watchmaker? I had one years ago that repaired a WWII Russian officers watch, but I think he retired. I stopped wearing that one on a regular basis because it set off Geiger counters 20 feet away..

tick = semi-oscillation. Yours does 8 per second.

tick + tock = oscillation. Yours does 4 per second.

B&C Jewelers in Bradlee Shopping Center (King St just east of intersection w/ 395) does lots of watch repairs. Their prices are very reasonable. They've kept my watch running the last 15+ years (routine battery replacements, 2 overhauls ~ 10 years apart, a couple sapphire replacements and a couple gasket replacements)
