That's easy for you to say, Kurt.

Ditto. My soft socket did, however, turn into a really nice regular 24mm deep well socket. Not that I've ever needed a 24mm deep well, but when I do - I'm ready.

Done all the time in high end apps.

X-ray machines with measuring devices are used in nuke and military apps to measure and inspect.

How about this for an idea? You make a bolt with a very tiny hole drilled through the center and install a thin wire in it. Attach the wire at the insert end and have a red mark on the other end that sticks out of the bolt head. Tighten until the red mark goes flush with the top of the head and you have a correctly stretched bolt. This even makes up for different temp installs as the wire expands along with the bolt.

What is all this talk about tightening lug nuts? Isn't that what the mechanic is for?
