I don't get to the gym very much anymore (i.e., I never go to the gym, ever) since all the kids came along (as if they just showed up on my doorstep), and when I do (i.e., a bald-faced lie just to save face), I don't work out my neck.

I notice a big difference at some tracks (e.g., VIR, Watkins Glen) between the days when I use the neck collar and the days I do not. I don't have sport seats, and if I don't use the collar, my neck (i.e., chicken neck with not enough muscle to even support the measly weight of my standard, lower-end Bell helmet) is sore for the next two or three days, but when I use the collar, my neck is fine after the event.

It never occurred to me that the collar could prevent serious neck injury. OG Racing convinced me to buy one based on the idea that it would prevent you from getting a sore neck from trying to support the helmet weight. It works as advertised for me, and it was worth the $20.

Are you saying that, by providing a fulcrum for neck rotation, the collar actually increases the chance of serious neck injury in the event of a serious accident, or are you just saying that the collars will not help?

The statement was to the effect that any difference is so slight as to be unknowable. Without extensive testing some things are just not quantifiable.

The benefit you describe is exactly as presented, though many many folks wear them ostensibly to prevent injury.

sheesh... you go away for a week and everybody is taking the pi$$ during your absence

I'm glad I'm not the only one "accessorizing" (I highly recommend it, between all the point-by's, at least when I'm OUT of the car it's the only way I can make myself feel better )

not sure about the "butt deep in Daves" stuff, but I think I'll pass just the same

Ok, I realize that the eyballs on the reptile appear to be installed by a dyslexic. I've been on notice for a while. I may have had some extravagant expenses, but somehow, an inordinate amout of useless colored tape does not ring my bell. This means that until I run out of my color combo of fat black tape and skinny yellow tape, y'all are just gonna have to keep the Polish jokes coming.

Luckily for you, the black is getting used at a fairly quick pace, so by next season I may get it right

The neck brace theory seems to make sense. It may well move your neck's pivot point to another vertebrae. My reason for getting it was to not eliminate head movement, but rather to limit it. I think that under a heavy enough impact, it will still compress under the pressure of the helmet edge, it just may not be as rapid/violent as w/o one. And if you're lazy, it helps too

BTW, I think they suck in the Summer heat so much that as soon as the checker comes out, I rip it off even before the end of the straight.

Trust me - the Polish jokes will keep coming long after you get the color combo right

Hey now I am dyslexic and that is offensive to me! First cave men now this. What are polish jokes? What is so funny about shining things up?

Did you hear about the Dyslexic, insomniac, agnostic? He lay awake wondering if there was a Dog...

cool sidestory involving the Polish... on rennlist I saw someone's avatar of a 993 w/ a Polish plate, so I emailed him and asked if he could find one for me too.

(Ever since we joined the EU, we got the cool plates to go with it )

he wrote me back that he will try etc. but that they are hard to get w/o ripping one off another car... guess his morals aren't as flexible as mine

this was before x-mas... and yesterday I got an email that he found one on the road, probably fell off during the accident and he was asking me for my address.... totally made my day

sorry for the hijack, just had to share some of the aircooled/patriotic comraderie
