Years ago, turning a screw, managed to rest steel watch band on positive battery terminal, somehow creating a closed electrical circuit through the band. Realization came only after band had become red hot.

Another one to keep this thing going:
One day I noticed the tail light out on the boat trailer. Removed the lense to push and twist the bulb. Bulb broke driving glass straight into my right thumb. When I was a kid my dad left me in the car while he ran in some store for smokes. I tried the lighter out on my left hand ring finger. I lost my finger print permanently. Dad laughed his A$$ off the whole way home. Come on. I know you guy's have done some really dumb things!

Yes, I've done enough stupid stuff to post more than once!
I've never had a fear of heights, always worked on ladders with my father etc. (building). When I was building my first house, I needed to get to the peak on the end of the house to get that last traingular pc of vinyl siding up, It was a good 35ft, and on a slope. I grabbed a couple pcs of 1x boards and fiddled with the ladder base until it was ok enough to make the climb. When I reached the peak and had the pc nailed, I was just ready to descend, the ladder gave way. Recently bought one of those Home Depot compressor/brad nailer combos, thing is sweet. Well anyways, I was at a customer's place installing cabinets I'd made, and was butt nailing two pcs of 3/4" ply together. I didn't have my clamps so I decided to hold it (on the outside) by hand while I nailed down through the top. Yep, nail blew out the side and the 2-1/2" finish nail went in one side of my index finger and right out the other. Like a hot knife through butter, through the middle just over the nail BTW - a little duct tape makes a great bandage. 8) Keith

Well one more. Back in the early '70s, before I knew the different types of disc brakes, I was crewing for a couple of friends that were racing an Audi in a 4 hour race. They came in for a tire change. I pulled the right front off and noticed the brake disc ‘flop’ around. Instinctively I grabbed the disc to re-align it with my bare hands.
I watched my fingerprints oxidize off this really shiny brake disc and just knew I would feel pain in very short order. I was right. |
