So I guess that means you're guaranteed to make it for the engine drop.

Thanks Pari. We'll make a plan when it gets closer. I'm moving this week and am not even sure of directions to my new place.

RL, let me know if you need a hand in moving. I can bring the Jeep over to haul some stuff.

Assuming a drop is done, not for repair purposes, but just for the hell of it, what is the *cheapest* that it can be done? For instance, I know you're not supposed to re-use certain parts like half shaft bolts and you'll need some oil. But, assuming you replaced the non-reuse stuff, is there an official list of consumables/stuff you need to buy assuming you're not doing any actual work?
Should we tell Steve that the engine drop 'just to have a look around and clean a few things up' invariably results in some serious upgrades? Looks like another addict in the making.

If the need is great enough, the 'reuse everything but the oil' technique can work. Trackside drops tend to go this way, although non-Dorkis tend to gather and stare in disbelief at the very idea of a trackside drop.
A couple of Dorkis and 2 hours can lead to.......

Wow! That was one pretty looking engine you had there, Tony. Clean and painted - the way they should look.

Hmmm, well. This is very interesting. An addict in the making, probably.

Dave, I think it was you that told me that you can't re-use those CV bolts when we took out Eric's engine. That was the hypothesis I had been using.

Maybe I should have saved my fuel filter change for such an occasion. If you want to find out how not to do it, search for my thread "Freaking Fuel Filter" on Pelican. Let's just say it has to do with dumping a whole lot of fuel in the engine bay and a trip to Auto Zone in the other car.

I may add my name to the list of dropees this winter.

PS. RL: If you need a place to keep your engine warm for a few weeks, we could stick it in my engine bay. Funny how it all comes together.

Steve, Steve, Steve, if I remember correctly I told you the factory says to change each time, local shops say every other time & they come in 2 lengths 8)
Like Marc, I reuse them nearly endlessly but do so by choice after carefully assessing them. I’d hate to tell someone to reuse them, then have them GRANADE coming out of T2 at SP
