Bob. Open slightly and pull up to slide it off the hinges.

A trip to Tribbles Kb falls church is less work than installing a new one and dumpling the old one.

Just installed a new-to-me dishwasher from a fellow dorki over the weekend, along with a new ISE (InSinkErator) disposal from HD. It isn't a difficult task, a few hours at most.

Make sure power is off. Make sure hot water feed from under sink is off. Make sure new one is exact same size for space. Make sure "air gap" is clean and knockout for dish washer waste water is punched out in new garbage disposal. If new dishwasher isn't grounded to the device (my old one was) make sure you have a reliable ground (green sheathed copper wire) nearby in junction box. I read modern code requires a separate circuit for the dishwasher, my house isn't so equipped. YMMV and all that.

I've used both sites Tony mentioned, both are good.

Good luck.

Just intalled a new dishwasher this week. Replaced a four year old Bosch with a Kitchenaid from Bray & Scarff Outlet Center, this was the quick simple easy solution.

Seems a dish washer epidemic is sweeping Dorkiland. 11 yr old just died after using wrong type of soap, the sudsy kind. Dr. K, in the Consumer Reports the Miele was the second ranked, but was by far the most expensive. Seems to be going against your frugal type cast. I could just replace the motor, but after 11 years seems like its time to put it out to pasture.

Where happiness of the household is concerned, there's something to be said for intelligent purchasing...and the base model we're considering is <$1200. Yes, we could buy the highly-rated Whirlpool gold, but it's more difficult to load, has very weird (in a not good way) silverware loading, and hold considerably less. The Miele is much quieter, too.

I'm late here but it's worth noting the wealth of repair info available through Samurai Appliance Repairman's site: http://fixitnow.com/

Just to close the loop, I found the valve on Amazon (yes, Amazon) for $14 cheaper than anywhere else and it only took 3 days to arrive. The new valve seems to have a different type of plastic (and color) that will hopefully be more robust.
