I've had the 52" Panasonic 77series plasma for a year and half now. 1080P and picture is great. Costco carries the 42" Panasonic Plasma and saw it on sale for <700 the other day. Will probably get that for the bedroom soon. Have PS3 Blu-Ray and FIOS TV. Both really make the picture jump out.

I love the plasma because of the color accuracy and clarity. The operating costs are equal to that of your fridge, so you may want to factor that in. But I think it's worth it. Make sure you get a sturdy enough wall mount for a plasma as they weigh a crapload more than LCD due to the actual glass.

I have a 50" Pioneer Elite plasma upstairs with OK sound system and a 52" Sony XBR LCD downstairs with a kick butt sound system. Please do not forget the sound system when spending way too much for these trival vision (TV) machines it does make all the difference. 1080 is definitly the way to go. You will find once you have high-def that you will not watch a show if it isn't in high-def. It is like watching a black and white vs. color.

sorry to keep adding stuff but did want to mention if you consider Samsung that the tv speakers are crap. i mean crap as in crap. as in 'not acceptable'.

picture is worth it but be sure to budget for receiver/speakers.

Really? No shit - maybe we should have bought the 650 then. Our family room has 5 windows facing due south with no trees blocking the light. You go into Best Buy and look at the TVs, and the 650/750/850s all reflected the lights of the store a lot more than the 550/630. But I've never seen one actually in a real house with normal sunlight. The shinny screen ones do have a slightly nicer picture, though. That said we went from 32" 12 yr old TV to 46" HD so we're still blown away by the picture.

So what about this Toshiba. The 36" tube we have is a Toshiba and it has been a good tv. Plus its a 52" instead of the

Or do I go with the more popular (here) the Samsung?

Jazz there is SOME glare but a LOT less than with our old non-fancy tube tv.

As i recall stepping to the 6 series gets you the 120hz refresh rate Pookie. I honestly can't comment on how well it works as i just set it to low or medium (don't recall) and forgot about it.

The Sony KD-34XBR970 is supposed to have an amazing picture for the price. It's a CRT tv set, but it does HD resolution (1080i I think) and has the 16:9 aspect ratio.

Only a couple hundred bucks if you can find one. But it weighs ~ 200 lbs, it is a tube after all, plus it's only 34".
