FWIW, might be worth investigating car values in the Portland area. While visiting Rye Beach area in NH many years ago, I was surprised by the low used car resale values in the local papers, only to discover that the salty air was causing lots of corrosion and rusting. If a "rusting" environment, may want to rethink how much to invest.

You can get an E36 M3 dirt cheap nowadays. He could spend under $10k and then use the difference to "freshen" it up. As it would most likely need new control arm bushings, tie rod ends, cooling system refresh, etc.

but if he wants what girls want, then he should go convertible: chixster or the miata.

otoh maybe he should drive what he wants to drive, M3, pickup truck or even accord, rather than basing his purchase on what he thinks some hypothetical tart might find so enticing that she'd be willing to open her legs for him in hopes of being rewarded with a ride around town in a chick magnet.

Always do a mid "C" vette. New motor under $4K installed, NAPA parts, HUGE aftermarket support, drop top.

If you go by U-tube, all he really needs is a floor shift anyway

A girl at my office has an RX-8. She liked the looks and bought it even though she didn't know how to drive a manual transmission. I drove it a few times to help her learn. I was suprised that the lack of torque didn't seem to be an issue in local driving.

Poor mileage and remembering to check the oil are the only issues I see.

Wouldn't surprise me if she is ready to sell it to move on to something else though.

Nothing says "chick magnet" like an El Camino. I'm fairly sure that's what he wants.
