I went with Bilstein Sport Shocks and they (RPM) also used a Turbo Tie rod kit. I really have been happy with it set up this way. While last year I was still using street tires Toyo T1-S, because of the new set up (and a couple of nice spins), this year I am going with Toyo's RA-1s.

I used to use a Performance Fiction pad but kept having difficulty getting them so I switched to Pagid Orange.......and have found them to be quite good.

my next major investment will be as much 2006 seat time as I can get away with from my wife......ideally at least one event a month (already accepted for Summit in March and VIR in April).

Default My Introduction (Gulp!)

Ok, so I hear that once you become a Porsche owner and join this group, you should introduce yourself. So here goes.

I have been looking for a Porsche for a little while now, first as a second car, in a limited price range. Then I got the bright idea to sell my daily car (a Subaru AWD Legacy sedan) and buy a newer P car for daily use. So, I posted my dilemma on this board and received a lot of useful and fun feedback. After looking at older 911's a couple of 944's I finally landed on buying a Boxster.

I found a wonderful 2001 Boxster with Tip in Seal Grey and picked it up a couple of days ago. I'll post some pics here.

About me, I am the director of marketing for a small educational association out past Lucketts (if you know where that is) so my commute is the opposite of most people in the morning and evening. My wife Jeanne and I moved from Old Town Alexandria to the Broadlands in Loudoun County and so far have enjoyed moving a little farther out. We're both crazy about movies and good restaurants. So far, out here, our favorites are Tuscarora Mill, Lightfoot and Blue Ridge Grille in Leesburg, Magnolia at the Mill in Purceville, and Bonefish here in the Broadlands.

I've owned quite a few cars in my time including two Porsche 914's, two Alfa Spiders, a Ferrari 308 and a DeTomaso Pantera. I have to admit that the Boxster 2.7 with Tip is fun AND comfortable. But I am not going to track or autocross this car at all. I scared myself silly at Summit Point years ago in the Pantera (after some driver instruction) and won't likely do it again.

Thanks again for all the advice and feedback this BB has offered. I was very appreciative and became a sponsor quickly. I just joined PCA and look forward to being a member there as well.

Details?

I want to know what could be so scary that you would not track any car anymore.

How bad was it?

Congrats on the car. You will like it.

We all have different thresholds. I used to think spinning on the track would be scary. I finally got my first spin in this weekend and on the tape, my instructor and I are laughing like loons once the car stopped.

I have only done one AX, but it was an absolute blast. Your really can experiment with the edge there.

Welcome, Furrimonkey. Car looks nice.

Yeah, I don't care about all that. No matter what your threshold, if you scare yourself enough that you will not return to the track, there has to be an interesting story in there.

I just want to hear the story

No big story actually. I've been to Summit a number of times but the Pantera had more power than I was previously used to and I fishtailed around one of the corners -- didn't even spin out. But I guess I have a low threshold and I didn't enjoy the moment. I am more about the handling of a car and not the power or the speed. Taking corners in the Boxster (or a Miata I had a few years ago) on a country road is more fun than blasting through corners at full tilt. For me that is the case. I know many others on this BB totally enjoy getting their car out on a track and driving as fast as their limits allow them. I understand the excitement but I'm just not one of them.

No problem. Different strokes for different folks.

Just wanted to hear how much of a depends moment we were talking about.

Now, if you ever meet my wife at any event or gathering . . . please do not discuss your overly reasonable point of view. Please.

Welcome to the group. I can appreciate you not liking the tail getting fishy......but sometimes there really is a lot to leaning how you car handles in different situations. For example, the following taught me a lot........

Some luck lies not in getting what you thought you wanted but getting what you have, which once you have got it you may be smart enough to see is what you would have wanted had you known.
