When we got to the Glen Thursday before the club race a couple of weeks ago I was waiting to register and was talking to Pete Trempler. Pete said that the Penske team had been there earlier in the week testing and he hung around to watch. One of the drivers, name unknown, who had never driven the track got in the Penske car and did a 1:47.xx on his FIRST lap! Second lap was a 1:36.xx and the 3rd lap was a 1:31.xx! He came in after three! Jeez!

That Target team was there running test laps several weeks ago when we were finishing up the Niagara region event. The crew chief called my kids over for a "hands on" look at their car. My three-year-old, Axel, had a huge smile as he stood on the ground next to the car and looked down at. I could tell he was thinking, hey, this car is my size....

Sweet.. Full course. Sure they don't have to contend with a "chicane in the esses" like the old F1 guys did (1980) but then again, the old guys didn't need no stinking "bus stop" either.
I'm actually pretty psyched about seeing the IRL guys tackle the Glen. While in no means a direct comparison, in a "friend of a friend" story, I heard that a 1990's Benneton F1 car (at an historic race) running the full course, with a non professional driver, was lapping in the 1:40's so.. 1:30's for the IRL isn't too bad, epecially since those guys haven't turned right for some time!
