Great info Matt. This is the first time I have seen a good list of what is * supposed * to be performed (although I would wonder if the dealer shops always do all of these items). For a 911, I can see how a tech could spend 10 to 12 hours (maybe more?) for one of these services. I think repair shops were less cryptic up front about the services they intend to provide, people would be less likely to complain about being gouged...

That's a great list, Matt. Thanks for posting.

Nice post Matt, thanks. It looks like Jeff and Matt came up with something real close to the same number.

I think the $500 PPI would carry the leakdown or compression tests add that to the major service theres a difference in numbers....I don't know these shops since I am in the southwest, but I am sure they are both good in thier fields. I am just going with ASG, talked to them first and Jeff was really reassuring to me... |

Matt is an expert wrench, how I feel, if I want something done right and done thoroughly, I take it to him. He's been in the game for a while, and I have yet to meet someone in this area that is as knowledgeable as he is when it comes to Porsches. I've heard good things about ASG, however for their price I highly doubt they will check everything on Matt's list. But then again,I haven't had any experience with ASG and I could be wrong. Send me a PM if you want me to take a look at the car and give you my novice opinion on it. Quote:
However most all of the east coast cars I looked at in my 911(pre 90's) buying process were infected with rust, something I really was trying to avoid. That is the reason why I flew out to Colorado to buy my SC, which is virtually rust free. |

Just don't let Pari drive it. :P ASG are a very reputable shop as are IMA, RPM and several others. All have their following up here.We are lucky having so many, making the choice more difficult and more down to personal preference and how one gets on with a particular company. As Pari said, not so easy over the phone.

Ok I wont let Pari drive it :P This is what I liked about ASG when I talked to Jeff, I told him my concerns about the rust...He said before they even start the PPI they would give a visual on the car first checking for rust and such or if the car looks not worthly they would call me up and give me a heads up and stop it right there...Now that tells me they are looking out for me and saving me some cash but not wasting my time on PPI and other items...I feel I am in good hands with them....

Pari right (boy that hurt), to really compare pricing you need to sit and talk through what you want done. IMO when an SC or Carrera starts to rust it’s because there has been some body damage or a repaint gone bad. Exception to the rule is the battery box. Inattention to battery maintenance or overcharging can easily lead to acid damage in this area. Lets not forget that Florida and California have huge coast lines.
