. I guess inspiration isn't always a good thing. All that just to clean it up and replace the oil pressure switch and adjust the valves Quote:

you don't need to disconnect the a/c to adjust valves... unbolt the compressor and put it on a towel out of the way. i'm interested in helping w/drop if i can work out conflicts...

Same, believe it or not. I bought the SC because I like the looks of the older 911's and I could afford one. Thought it was time to take a step up from vintage motorcycle ownership to car ownership. Just a weekend driver and something to tinker with. I had no intentions of doing any 'major' work on the car or even tracking it. After my first $1300 bill in the 2nd week of owbership, I though it was time to do more DIY stuff. I then found the Pelican BBS. A friend of mine at work is a driving instructor for the Audi club (and some other clubs in the area) and had me come out for one event. Needless to say, I was hooked. Did 2 more events that year. That winter the engine came apart to take care of the faulty internal thermostat, install the hyrdaulic chain tensioners and POV.....you know what happened next. Welcome to the slippery slope. I'll see you down here

Driving the car to get a feel for it should be step 1, then doing all the regular maintenance work is step 2, tracking it is step 3, and when you know how much HP you can handle on the track then it's time for step 4 where you remove the engine and tear it down to rebuild it how you want it. Sorry Steve, I will always be a firm believer in not removing the engine and trans unless something is really wrong and it needs a rebuild. But then again I'm a "dreamer" Quote:
