Agree with Kurt - it boogers up the look of the front of the car. When I do a front end re-spray the holes (now filled with bumper plugs) are going to be filled.

Not having a front plate cost me $80 last December. Worth every penny of it too! If it happens once a year, I'll live with it.

Just drill a hole in the plate to fit. And even if the bracket thing is an issue for early cars, I see a lot of the later model (post 90) cars driving around with fully functional tag mounting spaces but no tags.

What's the reason? Is there one? Am I missing something here?
Aesthetics is reason number one for me. I have other reasons too (the plates always seem to end up damaging my cars' noses when they're hit in "parking by braille" method used by most DC area drivers). I also think IMHO that they are a waste of taxpayer's money and not needed. I've lived in other states where the front plate is either optional or not even offered and they've somehow managed to maintain their city/county/state revenue streams provided by law enforcement (read: laser/photo radar/etc).

Maryland get upset if you don't have it, I thought VA was O.K. with just the rear.I agree with all the above, but refuse to contribute more than I absolutely have to to State coffers.
SPEDEMON say it with a jamaican accent Mon.

SPDEMON= speed demon no jamacian accent Dirk.

In Fairfax City we got a parking ticket in the BMW and an additional ticket for no front plate for an additional $40+. It just makes life more of a hassle to run without one in VA.

Don't drive on a military base without a front plate. I got stopped three times on Ft. Belvoir before I got with the program. MD will stop you and give you a warning. It gives them a reason to smell your clothes looking for funny cigerette smells. Why tempt fate. Also, if you can't see a front plate how do you know how many times to flash your lights at a on-comming Porsche. Once for VA, twice for MD. None for DC and a finger for everybody else!!

OK, Thanks for the feedback. I think I understand now. I was wondering if there was some special exception, since 5 out of 6 Porsches that park in my garage at work have no front tag. But I think I'll keep mine after all. I kinda like the look of it. (You could always get something like "TAG NOT" or "PL8 NOT" -- that'd be almost like not having one..... )

I was driving my brother's old VW GTI and the gate guy (older man) at Ft Belvior gave me a good 2 minutes of grief because the window had a nice spider crack in it.
