Outstanding bit of horse trading there Jase! My regards to Jimmy and Greg, as well. Sounds like the entire SSPI team has been deep into covert ops, and come up with the goods.
This whole deal begs a bunch of nosey questions: Will the 66 be Jimmy mount for this season?? Is the #60 trade something like a puppy sale - take it home, we're sure you'll love it? Can we expect to see you back in action anytime soon? Is Jimmy fully recovered? [I am guessing Greg won;t be recovering any time soon!"] Ah forget it.....I'll call! BTW, I think we are in the presence of greatness. Doug constantly surprises me with his detailed knowledge of these cars. I suspect its time to start working on Doug to write his first book, or a series of articles for Pano, at least. Best to Tatania and the latest model in the JS line.

Tony...
Yes, there is /was some serious horse trading going on. Like a "puppy sale..." yes, sort of. Jim and Justin have run the last 2 or 3 Tuesday test days at LRP. Both are heading back up there next Tuesday as well. Here's the conversation on a weekly basis with Jim: me: so... how was it? Jim: good, Justin spun again ... and me, well ... I wasn't really trying to go fast me: again? Jim: Yup, must mean he is trying ... me: hit anything this time? Jim: nope... the boys gotta look up! me: yup, or start wearing his glasses I am almost willing to bet a six of PBR it'll be the same conversation next Wednesday. Jim is well recovered and appreciative of all the follow-up calls he has received from fellow racers and track rats. It really is a family away from your family. Our first race since Jeff 500 will be the SP PCA Club race. He'll be in GT3R (or S) and I'll run the tub in GT6S. I was going to say "back to the scene of the incident" but ... I don't think there is a track remaining where we haven't had an "incident" over the past 20 years. [knocking on wood] Jase |

The '66 will be at a distinct competitive disadvantage in HSR as it is a "no flare" car and we'll have to run 6" wheels all around. I think that might change with some FG and we'll end up running 6" and 7". Still , won't be up front in the running.
ALL of the top cars in the HSR 2.0L Klub Sport class have made "minor" flare adjustments and run 7" and 8" wheels. Heck, I am starting to run 6" amd 7" on the tub. Good bye Mr. 195 hello Mr. 205. This racing thing is great fun!!!! Jase |

Great acquisition, but that is one bet I would not want to win.

Hey Jase,
I ran into Dave Decker yesterday. Well....actually I 'encountered' him on the side of the road within a half mile of my house, on the ground and struggling with the exhaust of his pristine early spyder. Naturally, the current errand was dropped in favor of grabbing a jack and the track tool box from home, and getting his axhaust bolted up where it belonged! Dave is into his first year of racing, so we had a bit to talk about. He's running HSR Group2 Vintage Production, and is currently leading the points table for 2J, running his '59 A coupe. His co-driver is Tony Zalones. Given how you know most everyone in HSR tub racing, you might like to meet Dave?? PM if so. PS: Most humble & grovelling apologies for mis-spelling Tatiana's name on teh last post. I just saw it and shuddered

I actually know Mr. Decker and have run with him a few times. Most recently at the Jeff 500. Dave has several "pristine" 356 variants and a couple with carerra 4-cam motors in them His track car '59 silver is VERY well prepared and he and Keith Denehan continuously are swapping positions for the HSR lead. Now, Keith and I go waaaaay back and I know what he has done to get his car where it is ... I would suspect Dave has had to make the same mod$if$ic$at$ions to be able to run there. Plus ... 10-15 hour motors... E.g. I was 10+ seconds off their pace at Daytona (Keith was running 2:18s!!) Don't think Dave was at RRII. Dave was running 1:28-29 at SP for the Jeff 500. Now ... that was about where I was in the 2.0L (as were you in the 951). Impressive on a 1600cc motor (req'd for HSR)... My tub was running 1:36s in the Jeff500. 8 seconds difference. I'll agree that it is plausible b/c of the rear tires (205/225 versus my 195), another couple of seconds b/c I have undercoating and OEM glass and metal F and R lids in my car (+150lbs), and another couple of seconds b/c I have "almost" stock cams. Also ... maybe another second or so b/c of the loose nut behind the wheel. Jase |
