Why would SS nuts mess up my new wheels? It's just that the OEM lugs I have look pretty beat up. They sit well inside the wheels, so are pretty much invisible. But I figured SS nuts would be stronger and less likely to snap or crumble.

If you are not club racing you don't need steel lug nuts. If you want to use steel lug nuts and you use anti-seize as you should be using the nuts will not rust onto the studs.

What is the need for SS lug nuts? If you really want to get steel and chrome them.

I have no experience w/ SS lugs. but I have been using SS for exhaust nuts for a very long time.

SS is more brittle to begin with. The quality of SS nuts varies. Using good SS on exhaust requires a bit of technique and is not usually recommended. On exhaust the SS tends to work its way loose, thus the technique to prevent this. The mag expansion and contraction of the bolted area would only magnify the possible problem of SS wheel lugs coming loose. The factory lugs are designed to expand and contract with the Fuchs.
and FWIW.. a few years ago I read that the aftermarket stock looking P lugs were NG.. in other words I had to buy a new set from Stoddard for the security.

I'm not a pro.
