I've done that before, and it works. I've also started in second gear when going the front ways up the ramp on FWD and AWD cars.

As you say, it helps smooth out the car motion.

Does the Boxster have front mounted oil coolers? I thought they were all oil-to-coolant coolers mounted on the engine crankcase...

Looks like you're correct. I always thought the oil ran up front, too, but it appears that only coolant radiators are behind the front bumper.

I am only familiar with my 981, but does the OP also need a special socket to fit the oil filter housing cover? I think I got mine from Suncoast along with the filter, o ring, and replacement drain plug.

I don't think there is a front mounted oil cooler on those. The two radiators in the front are engine coolant only, center too if it's an automatic. If there was a front oil cooler it would likely be thermostatically controlled and difficult to get the oil out b/c the thermostat would begin to close shortly after engine shut down trapping the oil in place.

No front mounted oil coolers.

Yes, the OP does need the special oil filter housing socket, which can also be had from Pelican, ECS, Suncoast, etc. A generic strap wrench can be used in a pinch.

No idea why you would leave the e-brake on while going up ramps. You can easily control things with the clutch. The ramps also have a lip, so you won't go off the end unless you try really hard.

+1 for easy DIY.
+1 for getting Mobil 1 at WalMart where it is cheap. Get 2 5qt jugs.

This thread is making me think a $200 8 quart and filter oil change sounds reasonable.
