Ditto on the shaft update, I did this as well a few years ago and went with the brass bushing kit. Has worked great so far.

I thought the brass bushings were only for the 915 shift coupler? They fit G50 as well?

Referring to the the shaft in the transmission bell housing that the throwout fork for the release bearing pivots on. The original setup has the shaft pivoting on a pair of needle bearings which have a very limited service life. The brass bushing/bearing is cast and oil impregnated and works well.

I have to dig back through my records from the rebuild in 1998 and see if the modification was done at that time.
