One method of noise control is to use a remote fan setup.

Thanks all, great info. I appreciate every bit of it, this project has been quite the learning experience.
Two reasons I like the proline hoods is they arent $$$ and they include noise #'s. Like Talon said, I think for normal use low-med should be fine, only need high speed when using a wok or searing meat. http://www.prolinerangehoods.com/ind...roducts_id=465 This doesnt seem to bad considering the power SuperQuiet - 385 cfm (1.5 Sones/46db) Low Speed - 490 cfm (3.5 Sones/58) Medium Speed - 615 cfm (5.3 Sones/64db) High Speed - 900 cfm (7.5 Sones/69db) Also, great advice on asking about bundles pricing. There are just so many options with this stuff I'm not quite sure what I want so a trip to a showroon and then some phone calls is in store. Strange how it works, I'm finally getting used to the electric range, still hate it, and I'm looking to upgrade.

900 cfm is definietly on the low end if you will have a charbroiler. I think our Vent-A-Hood is 1,200 when both fans are on full. And frankly that doesn't do a great job sometimes, and all we have is regular burners (well, we have a grill pan too, and that makes the smoke detectors go off sometimes, even with a window cracked).

We also have a BlueStar range. Their exhaust hoods are great - but costly. Went with a BEST and it has been excellent. installed for 4 years now -

Any experience with a combo wall oven/microwave? Jeebus this stuff is $$ but it seems like a nice option. I generally dont like combination units, what if half fails?, but this seems like a case where it might make sense.
Thinking something like this Whirlpool

A double wall oven and a separate microwave is a better bet for cooking, and for resale if you have the space to make that happen. Microwaves have a lower MTBF than ovens, so its going to be a lot cheaper to replace a stand-alone microwave than to fix/replace one in the combo unit. Besides, you can store a ton of baking gear [trays, pans etc] in the lower oven since you will only use it when cooking for a crowd.

Thanks for the info. Repair issues are exactly what I'm afraid of. I was looking at appliances yesterday and right next to the $2800 combo unit was a $58 little microwave. Still planning this thing but I might end up with a little one on the counter after all.
This is one of those decisions you have to get right from the start. If I end up with an island I think that'll be the place to hide the popcorn maker.

x100 on keepin' 'em separate. You can still put them in a ctacked cabinet if you want, but as separates. (make sure you plan the power)

Had experience with both AJ Madison and Brey and Scarff, both positive. I actually did order the wrong microwave (my fault) and they made it right for me pretty quickly.
