How old is the gas in the car? When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced?

Gas is new. Mech said the flow through the filter is fine. Pressure at the pump is where it is supposed to be but he doesn't have a way of checking the pressure at a later point.

try to construct the pressure gauge mentioned earlier. only costs about 12 bucks; 8 for the gauge alone. checking fuel pressure at the fuel rail could decide where to go next. it's possible the lines are not connected correctly "D" - druck, "R" - return (?), "S" - suck (?) suction (?). knowing the pressure would verifly the lines are correct.

Check the intake manifold for air leaks. In mine, the hoses were cracked and the air leaks caused similar symptoms. Mine wouldn't run at idle until the leaks were fixed.

Success. We now have a running 914, OK I have a running 914. The 1st problem I encountered was that the mechanic didn't have enough patience or maybe not enough spray ether. It took a while with the starter fluid to get her to stay running. Second was that only 2 injectors were firing. FInding the wire break on the 3rd was east but I haven't tracked down the 4th.

I will be needing a FI wiring harness as I don't want a buggered situation.
