I have some 80 cubic foot SCUBA tanks for free if any want. I also have 3 steel 120 CF for sale too. SCUBA air is as good as nitrogen as far as tire fills. The air is dry and this is the difference between the gas in a nitrogen cylinder and the slobber that comes out of the track side community air compressor. 80 cf would last a season for top offs.

you will need to get a SCUBA first stage regulator. (Old beat to shit rental type rigs can be had cheap off the internet) and the tanks will need to be hydro tested and visual inspected about $45. the tank will require a visual inspection ($5) each year or the dive shop will not fill it. SCUBA tanks are heavy but size for size holds far more air than a small portable tank. OTOH the small tank can be refilled at any air compressor. You can get or make a inline filter dryer to desiccate the air as you fill the tank for dry air fills.
For myself i would not spend big bucks on a tank as they have service lives and are not DOT rated after a certin date. IIRC noninspected portable refillable air tanks are 10 years from date of manufacture. Air cans come with the date stamped in them and a "do not use past this date" warning.
I use a regular portable tank and a $5 Harbor Freight hose end filler that looks like the one }{ posted but has a stick gauge not a dial. It works works great and is as accurate as my longacre.

Yup, I'm not looking to kill someone at my next DE. I think I'll leave the scuba gear at home.

The con to the sears joint is, it's pretty dang heavy. And when you're a girly man like myself these things matter.

Sears = 21lbs/$40.00
Longacre = 13lbs/$120.00

I bought a $10 air compressor at Wal Mart. Doesn't take too long to fill and works off a cigarette lighter. Very small and has helped out many a time when a track didn't have any air available. For me, it was much easier than carry around a tank.

Again, I'm in the same boat, but as of late, I've been storing most of my track gear in the beaters ('96 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme <181k miles> [hells yeah, who's jealous?]) trunk.

And I would be willing to bet that fancy 996TT probably came with a compressor stuffed somewhere under the front hood...

I put all 3 of these together to make a pretty slick setup. QD's are nice so you don't have to lug the hose around with the tank all the time or keep the gauge hooked to the hose. 120psi , 11 gallon tank will top off your truck, trailer, car and 4 buddies car or more for a weekend. Keep the tank in my truck bed.

You could do almost anything short of a hot rifle round to a SCUBA tank and not have it rupture. They are very overbuilt. Even if you lopped off the valve it will only vent. Over pressure will vent via rupture disk. I know people that strap them to their backs and bet their lives on them all the time.

Boy have I got a deal for you. I have a 35 gal tank from a compressor that blewup. It has the guages and a regulator still attached. It is on wheels and has a handle. (horizontal tank) I was using it as a piggyback tank but I no longer need it. You wouldn't want to chuck it in the trunk of a car but on a truck or trailer it could be usefull. You call, you haul. Free to you or anybody else that wants it. It better be claimed quick since it is already loaded up on the back of my truck prepairing for a dump run.
Shoot me a PM and I'll shoot you my number. Richmond is very close to Scottsville.
Did I mention It's free?
