I chipped ice off the windows for 20 minutes so I could drive to work today. The main roads were just wet from being salted, but not the parking lot. I had to skate across the ice to get to the building, only to find nobody else even bothered to come in. Without studded tires (does anyone even stud tires anymore?), vehicles are helpless on ice. I would much rather have snow.

Default Hakka RSi's on my '85 911

Threw them on yesterday morning in the driveway. 195/65R15 front and back on super Baaaaaddddass gold cookie cutters. Turns the car into a snow mobile.

Plus, with the tall sidewalls, it rides like a caddy.

The siped treads work pretty well on ice, even without studs.

I guess I'll leave them on until March.

Another added benefit, mileage is probably 5-10% better due to the skinny tires.

My DD has RWD and winter tires, but they were no match for ice. I slid out the driveway and could not back up an insignificant slope. I just parked it and waited for the sand truck. A couple times a year I miss my Audi.

That is simply not true anymore. True non-studded snow/ice tires (like blizzaks) work fine on ice. All season tires don't even come close. I think I remember even reading that the newest crop does better on ice than even studded tires. FWIW, Tire rack does their testing on an ice-rink (THAT would be a fun autocross course.)

We have blizzak LM22s for the boxster which would have been great today. Shame they're still sitting in my basement The wifes been nagging me to put them on for weeks...

I just dragged my trailer up my very steep, icy driveway with the Sequoia and its all-season tires. Had to put it in 4WD Hi to yank it up.

I think DRs calling me a tool?

But seriouslly, true snow/ice tires compared to all-season is sort of like comparing hoosiers to non-R compound. You really just can't believe the extra grip avail until you try a pair.

Less a tool than instrument. Agree with the Rx but the bedside manner = Fail
