Hi Tom!
Bring that targa to the next PCA Potomac tech session (get free lift inspection) and a bunch of these Dorki / Potomac A-holes will give you their honest opinion. *'cept for TR / DR ... he is never honest, kinda shy too ... |

FUD, and what do you mean "honest", I've always said you were an a-hole!!! Very good idea about bringing it to the next Tech (June 20th at Intersport) for a look see.

Hi everybody! </drnick>
My name is Joe, longtime lurker, first time poster... I was one of those kids that had a picture of a 911 inside his locker since the 6th grade, and have finally come to the point where it's time to get a real one. I seem to switch cars every three/four years or so, and have run the range from VW Bugs to a Dodge Daytona to a VW Fox to a Mazda Miata to a Audi A4 and most recently to a E46 325 coupe. (I've never bought a new car in my life, but better jobs do seem to lead to better cars...) So, now I'm in the market for a 964 C2, preferably a white Targa but am also considering doing a repaint if I can find one with solid mechanics but dodgy paint. Anyway, I have A LOT to learn, so I'm looking forward to grinding through these forums and pestering the regulars for "wisdom." Best, Joe |

I broke 100 posts so its time for introductions. The name is Steve, originally from Buffalo, NY then Tampa, FL I relocated to NoVA in 2004 after school. Once I could afford to buy nicer things the car bug caught on and I sold my eclipse for the STi. One DE with NASA and I was hooked so the 944 entered the picture. I've never been tied to one manufacturer or another so there was no life long desire to own a Porsche, but I sure am glad I entered the Porsche family.
The 944's purpose is to be a learning tool so I can improve my wrenching and to serve double duty as a sunday car and a DE car. I found that the STi had so much power and computer assistance that I wanted something slower and the 944 fits that bill so far on the street. The ride along I had in a 944 was a different experience and has assured me that I have ALL the vehicle I need for track days (for now). Maybe in 5 years I'll do things right and just buy a used cup car and a tow vehicle, but for now the 944 has to be able to get to the track, run all day, and take me home. Needless to say I probably won't be doing any other tracks except Summit Point until I'm sure she can take the beating and get me back to NoVA.

Thanks guys! LPM, for now I'm planning to use it as a daily driver. I've gotten some conflicting info about that, some claiming their old 911's are as reliable as Honda's, others seem to have worse luck. I figure my typical drive is about 10 miles into DC and then 10 miles back out, so my thinking is that even if I do break down I won't be completely SOL.
I do drive to Charlottesville one day a week in the spring, which has me a *little* more concerned, but hopefully if I find one to buy in the next month or two I can convince myself I've got it sorted out by springtime. I figure that eventually gas will get so expensive this may end up under a car cover during the week, but until then I hope to get lots of use out of it. |

My SC has been every bit as reliable as an '82 honda. But has not been as comfortable in the August heat or February cold as the new ones. My wife's 964 gets ~20 miles/gal on her daily commut and 30 or better going to Mid Ohio 2 months ago.

Welcome, Joe and Steve! Damn, I thought a 964 was a 'new' car -- so it should be reliable!
