I think I remember back when this happened. Throttle cable snapped and they had to get to a stage end to be able to repair and continue. I think it was the driver who got out and 'ran' the throttle by hand. Wonder if the navigator just flatly refused or won the coin toss.

Edit: After some googling I saw the french version. So the one above is different. Though looking at google results, its NOT a very uncommon thing Do they teach everyone this in rally school?
