Default New Guy

Hello all,

Just found this board, and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a recently retired submariner, new to the area and just got back in 911's after a few years away. After looking for a while, I impulsively bought an '89 this weekend. Cool car, guards red, Euro, upgraded "red" brakes, 17" twists, SSIs/Dansk, r134 converted, turbo tie rods, bump steer kit. I love it! ..But... I'll need to get it past smog! I have a full stock exhaust on the way, buying it used (and cheap) from a Pelican-ite. I'm a light DIY'er, so I'm really happy to have found this place.

I've done a few DE's in the past, and am looking forward to getting back on track!

Welcome both!

Derrick - your car qualifies for "Historic" even in Virginia. Not certain about the rules (my '86 is "historic" in MD) but should get you out of emissions. Does limit your ability to drive it somewhat...

Pretty sure its 25yrs for historic in VA, not 20 as in MD.

"D'oh!"

That's what I said. I didn't even think about smog for a 20 year old car. Despite what the clerk told me when I was registering the car, 25 years for historic is correct.

Stock exhaust is on the way, so in a couple of weeks I should be OK. Car smokes a bit, but I'm running Mobile 1 right now and can switch to dinosaur oil if need be.

Gratuitous pics of my previous 911s...

Welcome Derrick! Nice cars you've had. I've only owned a Boxster and several 944's (unfortunately all at the same time; the family that drives together... ). One of these days I'm gonna get myself into a 964 or 993.

Derrick,
Many on this board could LOAN you the missing pieces to pass inspection. I have a CAT just resting against my garage wall, waiting to be useful again (if only for a week)...

Thanks Peter, I appreciate the offer. Unfortunately, I'm not in a "cat bypass" type of situation. I have SSI's bolted directly onto a 2in1 out muffler - no place for a cat. If the cat in the temporary stock setup is no good, I might have to take you up on the offer!
