-pads for 2 axles, approx. $200
-4 rotors, $500?
-brake fluid, $11

making sure the tires are healthy would be the next step.

after that, time and money will be your limiting factors, though if you haven't done this i wouldn't worry about seats, harnesses, fancy rearview mirrors, etc etc.

when it happens, you'll know that you're overdriving the car and then you can consider seats, suspension etc... just have a blast!

Print out the tech form from PCA Potomac and go through it. Brake flush essential, while there may as well go to race fluid (ATE Blue or Gold) Make sure your rotors and tyres are within limits and brake pads have plenty of meat. Your first couple DEs should be fine on stock pads. If pads are getting low then switch to a high performance street pad (many posts on Dorki,do a search) Basically check through the car per the tech form best you can. Look for any fluid leaks, occasional drip of oil from timing chains or "push rod" tubes O.K. Battery has to be tight(Common prob) seats are tight, seat belts operate not frayed brake lights work. Once you get into it and feel brake fade for the first time you will know when to start upgrading in a logical fashion. The aim is learning to drive your car safely and increasing the speed in increments and having fun. Want to do faster lap times than your buddies, buy yourself a Carrera GT for $400,000+. Best return on your DE dollar spent is in your driving skill and ability, go fast parts will not improve those basics, so untill the car limits you consistently, improve yourself.

On your second DE, you should bring Hoosier slicks.

!
I was being a little facetious (sp?) as I did a good once over for DE at SC last Nov. It just got my juices flowing again about all the ideas there are to upgrade. I really want to do my shifter this year.

But, responding to your (& Dirk's) good "sensible" advice

Pagid orange pads, still life left (new hawk pads in box waiting just in case)
Rotors fine
Fluid new for DE last Nov. at SC so < 4 months old, only one DE.
new rear kumho's "

The addons, well like you said, I'll know when I need them.

Oh, I do want to buy one of those neck braces.

Tech session is the sat before the event at Funktion (sp) Auto or something like that. It's in Sterling near Dulles.
