They are exempt from emissions only. If you have regular tags, you must pass state safety inspection. Not sure about antique plates, you may get a "pass" on the safety inspection too, since you are severely mileage and use restricted, in theory.

On antique plates you are expected to be fully compliant with safety regs but you don't need to have the car inspected. No actual mileage limitation AFAIK, but you're not allowed to use the car for commuting and the police do take notice.

Actually, I read on the VA DOT site about antique plates a while back. You can only drive up to 250 miles from home; to/from shows/events; no driving to work/commuting. They are rumored to be tightening restrictions as a number of people use the antique tag loophole for "regular use" vehicles. Also, most insurance companies require an antiqued plated car to drive fewer than 5Kmi/year, and others at less than 2500mi/year and it can not be a primary vehicle.

You're right about the 250 mile thing. When I had my 'cuda on antique plates I figured I could get to all the shows I wanted within 250 and promptly forgot.

Jeff

There is a guy off Mill st in downtown Vienna. Back behind the railroad station. I think his name is Billy. Sometimes its best in situations like these to have contact at local shop. Charlie took me there to get the turbo inspected.

good luck.

1 defroster must blow a warm stream of air to the windshield
2 Wipers must be as installed by the factory. You need both
3 seats, you only need one but as stated before plug the bolt holes. Rubber plugs will work if you like
4 seat belt. The only aftermarket belts I am aware of that will pass are the Schroth. I would recomend the factory belts. You must have a belt for every seat.
5 door panels can be removed but you must have opening devices on the inside and outside of each door. Rear dors don't count but this is a Porsche , we don't have those.
6 Hoosiers are leagal as long as they have DOT #'s and at least 2/23 tread depth.
I hope this helps
If you have any spesific questions I can answer for you shoot me a PM.
