Question Whinning/Whiring noise ?

I have been noticing a loud whining/whirring noise on the targa since I have been driving around more with the windows down/roof off. More like a Turbo winding up whistle type noise.

It happens in all gears from 2800 RPM to 3100 RPM
I took off the alternator belt and the noise is still the same.
I also occurs while stopped in nuetral and does not change when the clutch is depressed.

I had a local pelicanite take a look and he said that the chains sound fine and said that it is a great running motor. We noticed that the whining noise is coming out of the exhaust.

Just wanted to confirm if this noise is normal with the SSI's and the Dansk Sport muffler.

It's nice and quiet if I keep the RPM's over 3100 as long as the local law enforcement is not around.

Thanks !

Those Dansk sport muffs are rather tinny for my tastes... it is probably just the muffler resonating in that RPM range.

Also, what are you doing lugging the engine at 2800 RPM? Once rolling, my car is almost never below 3500.

Resonating, that's it...

Thanks

I would keep the RPM's higher if I had a snow plow blade attached to the front bumper to push the slow cars out of the way.

My 4 YO daughter has to listen to the Chili Peppers (Californication CD)in the Targa and loves it when the Tach sweeps past 4000

You drive below 3000rpm ?? The sound you are hearing is normal, if you like driving your 911 like that.

Just want to confirm now that the noise I am hearing is not related to the transmision(Needle bearings or pinion shaft spinning) if the car is stopped and in nuetral and that the whining noise does not change when the clutch is depressed while the motor is reved up to and held at a certain RPM, correct?

I apologize if I'm being a pest about this.

Thanks !
