Compromise is exactly what }{ is saying. A $6000 911 requires you to compromise on something (cosmetics, mechanicals, etc.) but you generally know that going in. You know what you're getting and if you want a nice car, you expect to pour more into it. If you want a track car, you expect to pour more into it.

A $15000 car you pretty much know what you're getting there too. You expect most stuff to work and what doesn't is minor. Maybe there are some cosmetic flaws. Maybe some stuff breaks and you fix it.

A $10,000 car is the odd one. You hope everything works. These are usually the "everything worked when I took it apart" cars. The owner found they were in over their head or it just snapped a headstud and they know it (but won't tell you) and want it gone (ask markwemple about the white Targa). That black Targa in manassas is the classic example. It's a quick cash car for a sunny day. Someone will buy it, figure out quick it needs more work than the Miata or S2000 they were also considering and dump it for even money.

Here's an interesting option, and it touches on pretty much all of the points discussed in this thread. Plus, I spoke with the seller, he would allow a contingency bid which would allow a PPI (with leakdown & compression) for the winning bidder.

Cool. Nice looking car. I like the non-common colors though.

While that might be a good idea, as I'm actively considering bidding on the car, I'd like to limit the exposure to the car. I dont mind doing it here b/c this is a NOVA fanbase facing track season, i.e., they're most likely not going to pay attention to a ride out west. A bit different from a contingent in CO that might forward it on to friends or associates in the market. However, if anyone knows of a particularly trustworthy pelican, please let me know.

Also, if I'm way off base here, please let me know.

while i cannot say that it doesn't happen, i don't think i've ever heard of a car being snatched right from under someone's nose. i think we all bought our cars w/o major drama of someone wanting it too. this may only be true in a private sale though, and it looks like this one is in a dealership.

the active co pelicans seem to be very nice and helpful people w/ a man named grady clay leading that pack. he may be able to tell you more about a car from a picture than most can from putting it on the lift... it's also good to find out about the reputation that such a "seller" has in the area, something that east coasters have no way of knowing.

That's close to me. I'd be happy to look it over with you. It's one of those low rent dealers though...

Looks like they've dropped the price on this one 1k.

I just called him cause it's close to me. For a Porsche and Mercedes shop, he knows surprising little about the car. It was nice of him to mention it's black with a tan interior. Twice.

yeah, I spoke to him earlier in the week (or was it last week?). The dude was clueless about the car. He said they didnt have any records on it. He said they (as a porsche shop) liked the car, but couldnt hold on to it. I may try and get out there tomorrow afternoon to take a peak, but I'm really not sure if it's worth it.
