Otto, just make sure you are legally immigrating to Texas, as your name may bring you to the top of a database ("Otto? Sounds like someone who just waded across the Atlantic to live off our tax money!").
...although being legal doesn't seem to matter...

I've done the U-Haul car trailer twice (both times for the same daughter). Drove 6 hours with a Miata on one trip, and 3 hours with a classic VW beetle on the other. There can be an issue with lower cars - the ramps are fairly steep, and you have to get the front to clear the lip that the front tire sits against. I'd guess there are some easy enough work-arounds for those.
I probably wouldn't use it again for the VW, the ramps were BARELY narrow enough to get the tires on.

I've trailered vehicles a bunch of different ways over the years and miles. But I tend to believe that for you, the paid transport will be the least burdensome approach. And if they pickup 2 cars at the same location, I would expect there to be some sort of discount.
Not sure where you're moving to in Texas, but we spent some time last year in the areas around Austin and San Antonio, and the "hill country" is meant for sports car driving.

I'd be tempted to make the trip but only because I'd like to drive through that part of the country. BUT, I might be the only one, towing a load can be stressful in unfamiliar territory. Need to get over 2 lanes at the wrong time of day with folks that have no interest in being helpful... a few times a day... gets old fast. I used to drive a small dump truck and when the traffic and conditions stuck up their middle finger while I was loaded its the last place I wanted to be. Takes some patience and luck sometimes. Plus for a long run, tolls, hotels, fuel.. add up more than you might think.
Different story in the boxster alone. Hopefully
