Default Track guys brake squeal question

I have an 83 that has 993 front brakes on it with floating rotors. These pads and rotors have 1 track day on them from the PO. They squeak very badly when coming to a stop. I mean LOUD. Are they trashed? I have to assume they got too hot in the 1 track day and either glazed. They stop really well, better than my 77 with stock brakes.

Setup
993 front
Floating rotor
Rear 944 turbo brakes
Tipton valve

The ones that squeal like stuck pigs are usually the ones that work the best. It can be annoying on the street, but all that matters is how well they work on the track.

It is not due to glazing, etc.

Thanks David, stuck pigs are exactly how they sound, light pressure or heavy. Glad to know what I have and what good sounds like.

I think that may be a trait with floating rotors.. my early 930 does this too, but its not overly loud.

what pads? squealing is not a trait of floating rotors, it is a trait of the pad compound. if you have track pads, then they will make a lot of noise on the street...

I'm pretty sure everyone in the next county over knows when I am stopping at stop signs. That is how loud they are. They bite hard too.

Often the first stop or two can be an adventure when trackpads are cold. I have a steep hill about 1/4 mile from my house, and bringing the Targa to a stop for the light at the bottom was always an adventure. After that though, it would stop on a dime. (this was back when I ran w/ Pagid Orange pads; the Hawk HT-10s were not as delightfully squealy, or as 'fun' on the first stop)

I drove down to VIR a few years back. Coming through C’ville and all the stoplights everyone in their SUVs was looking around frantically for the out-of-control cement truck that sounded like it was incoming. It’s best to consider the noise a feature not a bug.

This is my experience with my 993 with floating rotors.

Track pads squeal like a stuck pig on the street. You (likely) won't get them hot enough on the street to grip like they should or be quiet.

But like Jim said, it is feature not a bug.

I can agree with that.. especially since I haven't change my pads. Something I'm doing now along with a caliper refresh.
