I have the 'old' porsche classic radio (https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKUCLASSIC.html) in my 993. I like it, I don't think that it sticks out like a sore thumb, the nobs have the fit and feel of the HVAC controls and the plastics match the finish and texture of the other plastics.
That said, the screen is laughable. They do include a stylus for operating the screen, which is needed when trying to input anything on the screen. Using the screen for nav is basically worthless at speed, but the system does do voice guidance so it is helpful in the rare times I have used it. The bluetooth connectivity and ipod interface both work well (and were my prime driver for getting it). I think that this new model will kill the one I have, but I don't have an apple phone so the idea of adding carplay does nothing for me. The prospect of carplay on that screen is ambitious in my opinion.

I like the look and though it is obviously new tech it blends as good as one could expect. I would consider that in my 914-6 if I really needed all those features. However, the price is extreme in my opinion. No reason for that to be $1,500+.

Most folks will only place OEM products in their car. This should be a nice piece at a premium price. Other radios to consider for early cars are the Blaupunkt Bremen and the radio offered by Continental. They do not have as many features as the OEM Classic piece, but for those looking to simply upgrade to a few modern conveniences, these are good options.

I've played around with a lot of weird head units in my 993 over the years, from an early Android unit from Parrot to a home-brew faceless DIN box, in various connected vehicle experiments. IMO the screen over where the radio is located is really unsatisfactory and takes too much attention.
A CDR-220 and a Rennline phone mount now provide the same functionality and the screen, when needed, is right up with the instruments.

Does it play FLAC files? I have a large FLAC library so installed a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X704 head, Kenwood Excelon XR401-4 amp, Infinity Reference REF-5032cfx, Infinity Reference REF-4032cfx in my 986 including all hardware and wires for <$800. The dash speakers took the most amount of time but well worth it.

On my 3rd head unit in the 930 since 99. Alpine CDA 105 with BT and Phone compatibility. Focal in doors, 8" sub in back seat foot well. 100w Alpine amp under passenger seat.
Rear shelf fosgates are getting crunchy and sounds like driver side door speaker is failing due to door operation. Time for some updates after 5+ years of this setup. Like the looks of that Blaupunkt to go back to an more original look.
