With a Trailex, you can also add wheel stops that easily attach to the trailer with their T-bolt design. Keep a 9/16" combo wrench stored with the straps, and you can easily adjust the wheel stops, including sliding off the rear one to facilitate getting the car on & off. Also, you can use the 9/16" wrench to adjust the side bars of the tire rack, through which the round tire pole goes through, up & down to accommodate different diameter wheels.

In fact, I think you can completely disassemble a Trailex (bolted, not welded) with that same 9/16" wrench.

I decided not to buy a new brake assembly. I repacked the bearings, adjusted the brake shoes, flushed and bleed the brakes, attached a Trailer Valet 5X to make getting the car/trailer out of the garage (tight space), reattached ground and ordered six 14" white steel wheels with load D tires.

Wish I had a hydrualic ram jack because its requires a lot of force even with the actuator shock removed to compress the MC using the chain and 2x4 method

If anyone one is interested in five 13" white steel wheels with 7 year old tires (barley used) send me a PM.

Thanks for all the input and I'll make sure to pack a 9/16" wrench.

Looked at the relatively-new-to-me trailer this weekend while installing a tire stop - looks like my tires are kinda old.

(Also found out that my breakaway system didn't even have a battery in it. But I can fix this one myself.)

So...where would one take a trailer to get tires removed/replaced? Or should I try to get some tire irons and remount them myself?

Drop wheels and old tires off. Pick up wheels with new tires.

Easy to jack an unloaded trailer up on stands and remove 4 wheels.

Hmm...I'll have to decide whether that will work with where I store the trailer.

For new trailer owners that might read this thread the battaery breakaway applies to electric brakes not surge brakes.

Ed, I would recommend inspecting the brakes if you haven’t done it.

Depending on the size of your trailer, just hook up and tow it to your local tire shop of choice. Just call ahead and see if they have your tire in stock / order. When I had my 28' enclosed, the Merchants in Reston (Home Depot shopping center) would just swap them right there.

Sorry to re-surface a three month old post, but . . .

Are there specific recommendations, either for or against, a brand of tire? Marathon used to be made in China, but not sure of current manufacturing location. Clearly am looking for quality, not solely at price!

Hey Rick,

GY Marathons were previously made in China but they are now US made and quite pricey. I just bought Carlisles which are made in China but less then half the cost. As these are more time limited items vs. mileage and I am going to swap every five years I opted to go to a higher load rating (D) for my 7541 and be done with it. The Carlisle's are about $50 at Walmart.com.

Spoken as if someone texted you that info this morning........ Rick - I ordered those Carlisle’s last night, per Hunters suggestion. Details on Walmart’s website were a little sketchy and I ended up ordering based on product #, not the description. They should arrive Thursday and I am happy to report back if they are in fact D rated load.
