Have an ‘88 Carrera and recently discovered two things:
- Extremely poor fuel economy...fully fueled the car yesterday and am down to 1/4 of a tank today. Maybe drove ~100 miles in total. - Strong fuel odor in and outside the car...no signs of any leak on the ground however can confirm it’s coming from the engine bay and not the frunk. Any ideas or experience with this? |

88 Carrera? Check the main fuel injection hose on top of the engine and the one in the back from the filter. These like to develop into leaks on 3.2 Carreras that turn your car into Porsche flambe. More info: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...ines-3-2l.html

If that's negative, consider removing the shift coupler cover (just behind the e-brake, between the seats toward the back seat). Make sure it isn't wet with fuel in there.

Jazz is right as usual. Clearly, check this carefully. Also check the dipstick, its possible an open injector is filling the crankcase but considering how much fuel you are losing that doesnt sound likely.

Thanks for the replies!
Anyone ever have this done by a shop? Wondering what the cost typically is. Also, if anyone has had their fuel lines rebuilt, anyone local that can do it? |

Update this morning. Definitely the rear line, pouring out fuel. Extremely lucky not to have seen a fire whilst driving. Sending the car over to IMA this morning.

I'd feel better about my car with a fuel leak than taking it to that place.

I have used IMA many, many times and always get treated right. Ivan, the owner, is a great guy.

I can definitely see Clark and Ivan having clashing personalities

I don't use IMA any more mostly because of location and one oversight, but Ivan did an excellent top end and transmission rebuild for me about 15 years ago.
