Looking for the best comedy show? Go to the public boat launch on the first warm, spring day. All the new boaters trying to launch for the first time!! I find that 11 - 12 is the best starting time. Then come back a couple of hours later for all of the festivities of getting the boat back on the trailer.

My family owned a marina with a boat ramp and rentals. I was quite amused watching people try to launch their boats for the first time. Huge Excusursion trying to launch a 16ft boat or a jet ski. My personal favorite were the guys who dropped the tailgate to see only to jack knife the trailer and completely f-up the tail gate. We were high volume on sat and sundays. By 6am most of the lot was full and the newbie boaters would complexity jack up the flow. Usually after the 3rd time I would offer to launch it for them and make get a $5 or $10 for it. The best was the guys who put there wife in the boat, then barking orders on what to do while launching it, and still forget to put in the boat plug. By the time they would get back from parking the boat would be half sunk at the dock.

We also rented skiffs to guys to fish from . They would hold 4 guys with a cooler. 16ft skiffs with a 6hp motor. We had the usual guys who came every weekend ... then we had other guys. Those later characters that showed up to rent were usual very "gifted individuals". Id give them the quick run down, ask if they had questions ... Id get the "kid, I know what Im doing get lost" look only to see them start the motor out of the water running like an airplane and wonder why they were going anywhere. Though we never lost a boat ... or motor which was a miracle in its own right.
