Lightbulb X-mass Ammo

With X-mass right around the corner I’m looking for good (read inexpensive) sources for bulk ammo purchases. Just for target practice, no hunting, so surplus Mil Spec OK. This used to be a lot easier but I let my FFL expire some years ago. I’m specifically looking for;

5.56 mm (.223 cal.)

7.62 x 54mm (30 – 06)

7.62 x 39mm (.30 cal. Kalashnikov)

303 (.30 cal. British)

9mm (Parabellum)

9mm short (.380 cal.)

My son recently got an M1 Garand, we both have Enfield Number 4, Mark 1 “sniper” rifles, and a couple of SKS carbines.

How 'bout a couple thousand rounds of .50 Rofus and some 5.56 green tip tungston penetrators. Now where did I burry that fifty gallon drum in the back yard? I'll see if I can't find those 40mm Willy Pete's I have in the trunk of the 911.

Pipes; check the text again I’m looking for “suppliers” not surprises! Besides I have all the .50 cal. I need, and don’t use AP anymore (bulged the gas tub on my VE SKS some years ago). Can you imagine the problems using WP in an indoor range I wouldn’t even know where to “target shoot” Raufoss (Multipurpose, Armor-piercing, explosive, incendiary) Ammunition any more US Military designation MK211. After all it combines armor-piercing, explosive, and incendiary effects and uses a pyrotechnically initiated fuse that delays detonation of the main projectile charge until after target penetration. Thus maximizing the moving projectile fragmentation and damage effect inside the target for maximum anti-personnel and fire start effect. I know the round can be used in sniper rifles like the Barrett M82A1 (SEAL gear?) and has the equivalent fire power of a 20 mm projectile. Making it particularly effective against targets like helicopters, aircraft, light armor vehicles, ships and light fortifications at 1K m. It would likely over penetrate… well almost anything Probably because of the tungsten penetrator and the more powerful explosive charge than regular API. I’ve read it can penetrated an inch of steel at 2K m, disable a man wearing body armor standing behind the wall of a house at 2K m and can perforate the foundation of a high-rise building (~20cm reinforced concrete?) at 400m. Though I understand Raufoss rounds are available commercially for ~$30 a pop I don’t think I’d like to explain to home land security why I had even a couple of rounds laying around the house for “home defense.”

I've had real good luck with CMP for 30-06 and .223. I agree with Rick. I bought a 1000 rounds of 9mm from them at ~$130 with 2 nifty ammo boxes. The 30-06 that CMP sells is Greek, but works fine in my M1.

Default ammo suppliers

Try www.ammoman.com

I've bought many cases of 5.56 and 7.62, even some LC match grade from Eric over the past 7 years. They often sell SS109 at an inexpensive price. Keep in mind that their prices include shipping.

You'll need to fax them a copy of your drivers license for your first purchase.

Think about this a minute Dave. I don't see anything in the modified 13/13 about this. We could mount one on the roof and sight them for 2 car lengths ...

I see this getting in the way; “Conduct that is inappropriate to the intent and spirit of the PCA Club Racing Program, jeopardizes safety or results in dangerous or damaging situations will not be tolerated.” I’ll probably put the money towards a “cheater motor”…. you know like you did
Got to admit there are some I’d like to…. no, no lets not go there

Anyone reload? I dont shoot much, but am starting to get back into it. .40 is cheaper than .45, but it's still a hit on the budget. I have a friend that loads .45, it seems boring, but he said 50 rounds runs about $5 when he load it.

Is is more PITA than it's worth?

Yeah. Unless you really shoot a BUNCH.
