I somehow missed this. Scott was standing beside me during Edwin's chat about the facility and events, and said you needed some help, and then we all scattered like leaves, and I left during the track walk. I'll be glad to help if I can. Not sure where you live but I'm in Spotsylvania about 30 minutes north-west of the track.

No worries. I think I'm down to a bad AOS. Always puts out a nice big, white oil cloud on cold start. And the oil cap is definitely getting a strong vacuum pulled on it.

I've inquired about pricing on the motorsport AOS through a buddy's family's shop down in LA, but I need to ping him again. If I'm leaning as hard as I think I am into the idea of a dedicated track car, maybe the 997 doesn't need an AOS that costs 6 times the stock version?

Event was good, if a bit cold. We had about 32-35 cars and there was a track walk, coffee, and lots of dicussion about all things motoring!

I host the Cars and Caffeine 2nd Saturday of the month at Harrisons Crossing Shopping Center. Edwin offered up the track as potentially the new location for the event. Stay tuned.

I enjoyed the event. Great to get to meet a few Dorkis, and some FSR folks. Got to see a lot of the facility after talking to Edwin about the Driver's Club - the tractor beam has a strong pull on me for that. I'm a half hour closer to DR than SP, and a WAAAY more chill drive without the beltway involved. The networking opportunities alone with the Driver's Club (as a guy soon looking for my next life job) seem to about justify the price of admission. Anyone joined, or been weighing cost/benefit?

I'm also curious to hear the thoughts of those that have driven the road course. On the track walk, the Jersey barriers and gaps in the tire walls made the hair on my neck stand up in a few spots, given my motorcycle racing background. The barrier in turn one after the apex makes me wonder where you'd end up in a rear engine, non-PASM car if you blew the entry to that high speed sweeper and lifted off... But, as we did not get a chance to drive it, I'm not sure how that geometry really lays out. Guess I should go back and watch the hot lap video, but curious about the experience from those that have driven it.

Come on out and make new friends and see lots of interesting cars, check out this awesome new facility with an oval track, a 2 mile 12+ turn road course, a large indoor music venue hosting nationally known bands, an upstairs bar and grill, a karting course, and then take some laps on the road course with us. (Touring laps mean lower speed, no helmets, paced laps).

Exit 118 I-95 in Thornburg Virginia starting at 9:00 AM. I hope to see you there.

What happened to "Touring Laps", kinda felt like big dinner, great conversation, good wine, and then I've got a head-ache.

If there was an explanation I never heard why there were no low speed touring laps to check out track.

The track walk would have been good for me but fairly anti-climatic for my 12 year old who got up at 7:30 am to cruise down with pop for touring laps.

Or perhaps we missed it by not staying for the track walk??

John, we were definitely teased in advance and I was also disappointed. I assume there was a disagreement between track management folks due to a need to staff up for something like this so I apologize that it didn't happen as we advertised. However, I can promise you that PCA First Settlers Region will be offering what we call Parade laps for our charities during the lunch break both Saturday and Sunday (April 1-2) of our HPDE that weekend. We do charge ($10 for an entire car) for 15+ minutes of laps but the money goes towards our various charities (boys Home of Covington, a couple of different Virginia Foodbanks, Horizons of Hampton Roads, etc. Dominion's GM has approved these so I am certain these will happen. Just come on out and enjoy the day with us car nuts and at lunch we will announce the parade laps. (approx. 1200-1215) . Be sure to ask the registrar (me) to get you checked in when you arrive.

Sorry about the let down--I hope we can make it up to you.

Scott

For what its worth--I met two previous strangers today at OGRacing. Both have driven on the track and both love it. One was a member of the Driver's Club (he is definitely committed) and the other guy, a vintage racer that cant wait to go back this season. I also talked to a potential attendee to our FSR event on the phone about 30 minutes ago that also said he drove on it last year a couple of times with TrackDaze and he also loves it. I guess there is something to be said about diversity and choices in tracks. Many in this community have said that Summit Point jefferson Course is the most dangerous track in this area but I bet you'd be hard pressed to find too many open weekends on it. its in use as I type this--and from a very respected car club. All tracks have risks and our hobby has risks. However, we do know that both Dominion and Summit Point are making some good changes to enhance their safety.

Believe me, the safety issues I noticed on the track walk will NOT prevent me from driving it. Hell, I got reeeeeally close to killing myself at Barber, and that place is wide open.

I just like to be really aware of spots on tracks where "you need to make sure you're not WFO right here", but I guess that's what riders (...oops, drivers) meetings are for.

IRP was notorious for having light rain on Memorial Day and Brickyard - the only days WERA could successfully compete for a track day against the car clubs. That traction compound stuff they put down (ummm...19 years ago - crap, I thought I was still kinda young) on the front straight drag strip turned to snot with water on it. Inevitably, donor would forget and come wide on the exit of the last turn...not good.

...And I'm stoked that that place is a nice chill drive for a one day out and in at the track.
