We have two of those college students, thanks for the idea, I'm sure one of them will gladly take it.
It's all yours. Let me know when you would like to pick it up. I am in Gaithersburg.

If that's all you want to do, then there converts to convert composite/SVideo to HDMI. Cost around $30. If you have something really old that does the TV modulation, then you can hook the console up to a VCR tune to channel 3 and have the VCR output the video the HDMI converter box.

You can also just go build a RetroPi retro gaming machine based on a RaspberryPi. As another option.

I wonder if the video games in question require a scanning beam because they use a light "gun" or similar technology. These don't work with LCD-based displays.

(The game figures out where the gun is aiming, by looking for when the cathode ray is scanned into the gun's boresight.)

Good point, if you need your fill of duck hunt then you need the CRT. Or just grab a Remington and head over to the Shore for a more realistic outing.

I have a 27 inch Sony Trinitron that cost $999 (back when a good color TV was $300) available for the taking. Now one can get a 4K HDR 49 inch Sony for $999.
