Default Short or Long Heater Control Boxes? Replace or Rebuild? 78 911SC

Next Project: Repair or Replace the Heater Control Boxes on my 78 911SC Targa.

Pelican lists both long and short boxes for my car. Do both work, and is there any reason to choose one or another?

My recollection is that my car came with short ones. They were totally seized up and got ripped out during another project. I need to get out into the parts bins tonight. Regardless, will either ones work?

The second question is... Since new ones are at least $200 a set (for non-OEM), are these usually rebuildable, or is this one of the things it is better to replace?

You should be able to find some good used. I have rebuild mine and powder coated them.

I assume you mean these

Before

After

I think both types should work, for the shorter ones you need longer hoses.

Cheers

The hardest part is getting them off without breaking the studs. Hopefully that isn't an issue as you have them off.

LOL... ViceGrip, you helped me get them off... They were super stuck, but I don't remember breaking studs, just the cutting of totally trashed and frozen cables and fasteners...

I found the Heater Valve Installation Kit on Pelican (SIC-211-051-00). It looks to have the white material to rebuild the valve. I ordered it, along with cables, hoses, cable guide tube grommets and fastener kits.

Heat is on the way, I hope...
