Default Installing GT3 seats and harnesses

I picked up some GT3 seats for my 996TT from a fellow Dorki (thanks 996Convert!). Getting a roll bar installed and need to purchase harnesses. I have a question about where to mount the submarine and lap belt straps with these seats. The GT3 seats from Porsche have brackets on the side for the lap belts and Schroth makes a specific harness for them.

I guess this saves from having to install an eyelet for the lap belts. The seats also came with brey krause sub strap mount bars. For safety and to pass PCA DE tech do I need the sub belts mounted to the floor or could I use the brey krause sub mounts attached to the seat? I am concerned about having lap and sub straps all anchored to the seat itself and not the floor of the car.

The only advantage to the Schroth GT3 belts seems to be they will attach directly to the seats (lap belts only). What's the correct way to install harnesses with these GT3 seats?

Thanks!

I can't answer most of your questions, but did want to point out that for for a SIX point belt you want the sub straps mounted fairly far back, so the straps come up and around your inner thighs. For a FIVE point harness, you want the single belt mounted forward of the buckle or it's going to be annoying your boys especially while braking.

My Targa had the sub belt mounted to a bar that went across between the seat and the mount (actually between the mount on the car and the slider rails, so it did not move when the seat was slid). On the 911 race car and on the Miata, they're mounted to the car floor.

Can't speak for DE Tech (they have to sniff a lot of seat holes) but it is generally the easiest solution to use the matching sub bar for the GT3 seats and harnesses. Easy to take the seats in and out with the harnesses still attached. Porsche part #, OE, etc.

Racecars are a different story.

Dan, I took sliders out & bolted to floor at recommendation of shop & friends.

Take a look at these PDFs on Schroth website, call if I can help.

I have GT3 seats and 6-pt harnesses in my 996.

Sub straps attached to the compatible sub mount bar as linked by Martin.

Lap belts currently attach to eye bolts mounted to the floor.

Shoulder straps wrapped around custom roll bar fabricated and installed by Piper Motorsports.

Prior to having Piper do the custom work, I did the lap belts this way: outboard lap belt bolted to the lower point for 3-pt belt attachment; inboard belt attached to the mounting point on the seat. I never felt there was anything wrong with this, but while I had Piper in there, this was an easy mod.

My GT3 seats are on sliders.

All that being said, last winter I purchased a Sparco halo seat for me (driver). Piper made brackets to mount this seat to the floor. For track weekends I install the halo seat. Between track events I put the GT3 driver's seat back in. It takes me less than half an hour to do the swap.
