Default 2nd try installing windshield failed - Which shops do this?

After tearing my (2nd) OEM windshield gasket, I have had enough.

I pulled the car out of the garage and followed the Pelican article. I actually got three tries in before the rubber tore. The first two times it didn't stay seated as we pulled out the 550 cord soaked in dishwater soap and water. The 3rd time it tore the rubber.

I... AM... DONE... This is not my favorite task and I cannot afford any more experience...

The problem is... If I am going to have a shop do it, I should probably go ahead and replace the clouding glass. And I am spending that much money, I should probably replace my broken, cracked and missing-fastener dash...

You know, While you're in there...

I have heard recommendations for thatglassplace.com and recommendations to only use OEM rubber and Sekurit glass (if I can find it).

Wish me well...

I used Safelite in Alexandria for a 944 windshield that took a rock. Not a high-end place, but they did a good job with OEM glass + gasket.

And good luck!

From what I have read you really need to stay with Sekurit glass. Otherwise the Chinese knock offs will leak. They have problems with fitting correctly..It will be a gamble. If whomever does the work will provide a warranty. You can pass the risk to them.

I am in the same situation as mine started to leak on the lower driver side. The prior PO did replace it and mine started leaking several years after I had owned it.

Keep us informed on this and sorry to hear about your debacle as I was there for the first round...

Fingers crossed and best wishes..

Admittedly this is from memory, and across a distance of over 5 years. However, Safelite had the option to get OEM glass, which I'm pretty sure was Sekurit on my car. I'd heard the same as you about knock-offs, and that this was very true of S2 Cab windshields (which apparently are different than stock '44s). When I checked after installation, it had the right marks (Sekurit) on it. Admittedly, things may have changed, but it might be worth a shot, especially if they'll let you bring your own parts.

I very recently sold my NOS Sekurit glass windshield that I'd had for at least 5 years. I sold it for a song as I was also selling the car. When I tried to sell it on Dorki, no one seemed interested in paying even $350 for it... Good luck finding one.

I'm the one that recommended thatglassplace. They did a nice job on my 993. And insurance covered it.

Me too. They replaced the windshield on my Targa 6-7 years back.

There is a guy in Pelican Parts section that offers Porsche windshields with or without tinting, periodically. You may want to do a search to find his "ad". If it worked out, you may be able to use him as a parts source and have a contractor do the install.

If you decide to try again, it helps to have a second person on the outside of the car to slap the glass into place (because it shifts around in the seal) and to apply pressure as you pull the string. Also, start at the bottom and work your way up.

That glass place replaced mine. Not cheap but did an awesome job.
For what its worth Safelite cracked my old windshield while filling a small chip. Ironically I had the chip filled to keep it from cracking.
