Default Need pricing advice on selling my 996

Due to certain, ahh, life events that start with D and end with E and may involve legal counsel, I find myself in the position of potentially needing to unload my beloved 996 in the near future for something more practical. I loved this car and tried to maintain it in a way that it would last me.

I had my eye on a Cayenne at a dealer but they offered me jack shit for my car. I know they need to make some money but this was more of a "we don't want to deal with it" offer. I'm thinking about selling it private party even though I'd rather eat glass than deal with potential buyers.

I would really appreciate some harsh, realistic advice on what to sell this for if I go private party.

Thanks,

Dave

Cliffs:
2000 C2 tip, 102k, DD, was tapped in rear bumper at a red light and the skin was redone by an outstanding shop in Chantilly whose name escapes me at the moment, AOS/rotors/pads/coils/plugs all within the last 10K or so, IMS/RMS done a while back, probably due for another RMS in the next 10-15K, I have had it for 35ishk and have run Motul (first few changes) and now Joe Gibbs (last couple of changes), JVC HU w/ XM, some older amps/crossovers/speakers but I am not an audio guy so it means nothing to me, bypass pipes (have original mufflers), no idiot lights, pretty decent stack of maintenance history somewhere in the house, all maintenance in my ownership done by me or IMA, stock suspension (new Bilsteins around 60K IIRC), everything works

I've been thinking about getting a 996 for a while now. In doing my homework, NADA suggests for your car as described, a clean trade in value of $17,075 and a clean retail value of $20,425. In looking through the various For Sale sites, that's where most of the asking prices are. If you are thinking of asking a premium for the car, probably be good to get compression, leak down , and oil analysis to fortify claims that the engine is still strong. That's my 2 cents. if you are going to put a for sale sign on it, post it here, would like to take a look at it.

You may want to check out consigning your car with http://www.carlotz.com/seller-faqs/ if you don't want to deal with the potential buyers. They also do price evaluations.

Harsh reality is its a 16 almost 17 year old car. It's also a much maligned model with a known litany of potential issues. It has over 100K miles and is a Tiptronic. Not sure what you were offered, but no doubt you felt hurt or insulted by it. The dealer was just going to wholesale it out anyway would be my guess. They use the auction houses for price guidance which is always lower than NADA and KBB prices.

Clean it up. Post lots of good pics. Deal with the tire kickers. but imho, its a mid teens price. low teens if you want/need it gone quickly.

Appreciate the post. I accept all of that. I have a buddy in the industry who provided me with national wholesale numbers for 996s of that vintage, and I realize the dealer has to make some money too, but they were significantly below wholesale. C'est la vie.
