Default WTBorrow: Boxster S or 928S4 brakes

Anyone have any spare big brakes? Just need something that is (a) big and (b) radially mounted. I want to mock up some bigger brakes and I need to use something as a guide. Still evaluating options for what I'll end up doing.

Glad to see you made it to this milestone in fofo/chebbo ownership!

Be sure to add cooling. Adding iron only delays the onset of over-heat-soak. Adding iron also adds other unwanted issues. Adding air helps in all conditions with little downside. The cute little pre-made add on ducts with flex hoses don't move a lot of air and are prone to damage and kinked ducts.
IMO Add big shovel like scoops to anything you go with. Going from a pinwheel pumped 4 to a V-8 you need to add more of both iron and air. IIRC being able to tune the bias helps too. The good news is this is a well traveled path and you can work from what others have done.

Yeah, agreed thanks. The car actually already has hoses and scoops; I even added additional "bargeboards" on the control arm to help direct flow further. Both certainly help but it was an inevitability.

As part of the V8, I didn't touch the rotors/calipers/cooling, but I did revamp the master cylinders. Now it has dual Tilton MC's with a Wilwood bias adjustment -- big help! The annoying thing is that with larger calipers I'll need to buy a bigger front MC...and it was a pain to bleed.

The S4 brakes are 'big reds' or the 'little reds'? I'm 95% sure I have sets of the 'little' ones on a shelf in the garage. I machined the rears *WAY* back if you search one of my HoF threads. If those are the ones you are after (and I'm closer than other volunteers) I'll go dig them out. Whatever I have is the ones that will fit over 930 rotors. I know they are not 'big reds'.

or

http://www.vehiclecraft.com/Brakes/vciweb1.htm VCI mentions some special notes about '86 944 turbo applications as well.

If it matters, 986 Boxster S and 996 front brakes are the same.

Collin -

I've got some toasted base cayman front calipers. Send me a PM if you want to use them as a guide.
