![]() Join us Saturday November 14th, for a dirt road Off-Roading Drive & Dine Trail Ride event which will include several of the highest points in the Northern half of Virginia, all above 4,000 feet including one with spectacular 360 degree views. John Young (nosigma) of Northern Virginia Jeepers Association (NVJA) will lead us up into the Alleghany Mountains to Flagpole Knob (elev. 4200 ft) located in George Washington National Forest along the border between Virginia and West Virginia. This unique event is for Cayennes, Macans and other pre-approved Off Road vehicles driven by PCA members. Afterwards we'll rendezvous at Local Chop & Grill House for a warm cup of coffee and some of the best farm-to-table dining the Shenandoah Valley has to offer. We have a limited number of seats available for Ride Along Passengers too! Space is limited, so please reserve your spot now. The dirt/rock portion of the route is well within the capabilities of all Cayennes & Macans and presents an introduction to Off-road driving. The dirt/rock road and is about 7 miles in length (round trip) including a short excursion for a hill decent/hill climb demonstration that will highlight the full capabilities of the Cayenne off road. All roads are owned and maintained by the U.S. Forest Dept. NVJA will be providing experienced guides and spotters. Some mud and dust can be expected depending on weather. All vehicles must pass a tech inspection per the requirements listed below and we will be observing Tread Lightly principals. Drivers/Ride Along Passengers will receive instruction on the following topics prior to the off road portion of the trip: Working with Spotter, hand signals, verbal cues. Brake, throttle and clutch control (its not the same as road or track). Left foot braking and torque converter energy management. Line selection The importance of precise tire placement Using berms, ruts, rocks and slopes to your advantage. The proper and improper use of momentum. Stopping, getting out and walking the road ahead to plan a line at several points along the route will be encouraged, not so much because it is essential for safe passage but rather to assist in building basic skills in line selection and tire placement. Where to: Flagpole Knobb Harrisonburg, VA Date: Saturday November 14th 2015 Deadline to Sign up: Thursday November 12th 2015 Register here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/events/...-dine-flagpole Costs: $75 for NVJA Instruction & diner at Local Chop & Grill House. The link below is for a video of a Cayenne descending one of the steeper hills on Flagpole Trail. It was taken last spring. This section of trail is one of the more difficult sections that will be driven on the November ride. From this video you will get some idea of the care we take in spotting these cars through obstacles along the trail.
If you have any questions about this event I will be happy to answer them. John (PS: You tube is full of Cayenne "hold my beer & watch this" videos. Thats NOT what this ride is about).

I can definitely vouch for how much fun this ride is, and how "stock Cayenne" friendly this trail is! John is a top-notch trail leader/spotter!!

Since Joep has some experience on these trails we went into some terrain that was a bit more (actually way more) difficult than what we will run on the November Ride. This video was taken just after I got rejected twice on almost the same line driving my daughters TJ. I got lazy, screwed up and missed the line both times then reset and hit it the third time. My lame excuses are that I am use to driving my rock crawling monster (makes you lazy) and the Cayenne has way more traction (PASM) than the open-open Wrangeler (whine & nose bubble). Again THIS IS NOT where we are going, but it gives you a good idea of what the Cayenne can do in capable hands. Joep has a couple even more impressive video's....

![]() ![]() A couple Founders Region Members have asked about driving other off road vehicles, Jeep, Hummer, Land Rover. They are absolutely welcome on the ride. John

John,
Thanks again for the instruction, had a total blast! Getting to Meadow Knobb was a new level for me. Then yesterday (the day after that video was taken) at the picnic they voted my truck the most in need of TLC for being by far the dirtiest porsche in the car show. Here's another video DSCN4734 by joep pcapotomac, on Flickr

This weekend Nova Jeepers held its fall foliage ride. We took all the trails that will be used on the off road drive and dine event plus some that wont be used on the D&D.
Pretty far into the trail network one of our groups found two grandma's in a Ford Fusion. They went shopping, took a wrong turn off of Route 33 and drove the entire route that will be used on the Fall Off Road Drive and Dine, in fact they went further. They finally got stuck. "Boomer" one of our Trail Ride Committee members drove them out, up the hill and then on to Briery Branch (asphalt) with no damage. Boomer drove the Fusion in all the areas seen in the video's above though he used slightly easier lines. With only 4" of ground clearance it did kiss the trail a couple times but with no damage other than a couple scrapes to the muffler. Do Not Fear: Your Cayenne is more than capable of this route.
