Could be anywhere in sub Saharan Africa. Dry river beds and flash floods. Rented a car a drove across the Namib desert for three days. Most spectacular scenery on earth in a beautiful, harsh way. Germans used to run the place and there perfectly graded gravel roads maybe fifty yards wide where I could drive 100 miles an hour drifting through long sweepers. Spun once and the car just slowly came to a halt still 25 yards from the small berm marking the 'edge' of the road. Other places were literally driving on a river bed.

That because you are a slacker. Had Pete last event and we did cone exercises.
Also, 15 years ago. Now if you're saying we should go out on a giant gravel skid pad, now that would be fun!

Don't google the cost of one of these. You would sell your track car for a set.

For a LOT less money, you can find a bespoke knife just about anywhere now. There has been a huge resurgence of 'garage' makers. No, not as good a knife as a trained master but the craft is out there. If I had a gas forge I probably would have hand hammered together some leaf springs (high carbon steel) by now just to do it once. I have a KMG style belt grinder already FWIW, to be certified at the highest level I think one of the tests is: you have to make a knife that can be hammered though a nail and then put the tip in the vice and bend the handle to 90deg without it snapping. It is VERY difficult to get the heat treat right so you maintain both hardness and ductility. To watch them flex it to 90 is just nuts. Note: they just dont push it over as the tip would bend too much and snap. They grab the handle and pull and sort-of lift to get the radius to be even over the whole length. Makes me nervous just to watch the videos

That's pretty cool. However, since I don't have the money for one of these, I stick with the Porsche knife.
Cheers Engelbert

Lots of knife makers trying to make kitchen knives these days. Most make knives that really, really suck in the kitchen. The ones who make good ones typically start anywhere from $500 - $700 for a carbon chef knife in a 9 inch length, and double that for a damascus. Some of the top notch makers are easily double that. Check out kitchenknifeforums.com sometime...
