FWIW, using (and periodically washing) an inexpensive balaclava makes a helmet's interior last MUCH longer.

Agree. Buy 2 and keep one in reserve, but they almost always dry out between runs. But it's nice to have that second one just in case. I actually bought my first one on sale at OG for $15 (Sparco Nome!), but I've since bought 3 more (lost that one, bought 2 more just like it and one that was different configuration to try). The one with just 2 eye openings seem weird but is very comfortable. Downside is increased fogging of sunglasses until you start moving (once moving it's not a problem).

Get a cool suit and you won't sweat out the helmet

I had a very up tight student, very fussy about his stuff. We parked right next to one another and we happy chatting, when I realized my session was up. I grabbed my helmet, jammed it on my noggin and drove off. I came in 30 minutes later with a headache and ripped the damn helmet off my head. I don't know what happened, I said, my helmet must a shrunk.

You of course know what I did. I think the poor student threw the helmet away.
