Default Searching for my first Porsche

Hey all

I posted here about two months ago since I was looking for my first Porsche. I've narrowed the field down to 1980-83 911 sc. I love the styling and its personality. I've looked at a couple, even got one a PPI but I'm still on the hunt.

I was wondering if any of you know someone selling their SC or 80's 911, that might not be on Craigslist , Rennelist, or pelican parts?

All the best
Mike

Hey Mike,

I don't know of one now but I along with the rest of us, will gladly keep an eye out for one. I applaud your restraint and believe you will be rewarded and find a good example.

Does the 10,000 dollar SC exists anymore?

I'm willing to go to $20,000 for my SC. That is with knowing that I will have to put about 3k into it in the first year.

I like sc's with the turbo/ tea tray tail and either coupe or targa.

Thank you guys for your help and support.

Given your budget I would not rule out a 944, 968, boxster or a first gen 996. There are a lot of good cars out there selling at depressed prices.

The air cooled car prices even for the 911SC's are well north of 20k and these are older cars where unless your an experienced wrench budget another 5k plus to get the car sorted.

I'm not an experienced wrencher but it is something I'm interested in learning. I haven't totally ruled those out.

What I like about the SC is that it's pretty built proof and the feel and sound.

I did find a 914 on craigslist. It peaked my interest because it has the Chalon slant nose body kit which you don't see that often. And could be a good affordable first Porsche. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/m...821209926.html

I did a PPI on this Porsche but it need work and he wasn't willing to negotiate on the price.

I'm open to all ideas.

I will again suggest looking at Atlanta and further south. Check PCA Classifieds, Pelican, and Rennlist.

Ask for lots of high res pictures. PPI was a must for me.

Flight, hotel, PPI, gas home was well under $1,000. Savings vs what I found around here was much more than that.

Good luck!

I don't know about that 914 - looks like all Porsche parts, thought - Bumper/Valence from a 911SC, hood from a 944... Never heard of a "Chalon" but don't like what I see. That's what makes horse races.

May be worthwhile to check out. At 230,000 miles you might be looking at shocks, suspension bushings, new rubber window seals. The engine may have worn valve guides and rings, leaks, etc. Clutch? Brakes? A PPI will tell you lots. Accidents? Check that the panel gaps are even everywhere, once again a PPI is a must. If you like what you see you should probably move quickly as this may go quickly considering the price.
