This is an issue that applies only to water-cooled Metzger engines. Does not apply to M96/M97 engines.

Sorry to correct you Bob, 996 and 997 cup cars have the exact same coolant pipes as the street cars.

Sorry for the error, I saw the photo above on Rennlist while researching and it is claiming that this is depicting "GT3R/RS/RSR series cars" and shows factory threaded fittings. If this is incorrect, I am just spreading interweb myths.

The R's have an arrangement that is completely different. Different size hoses too. Cups are same as street.

The pipes on my car are not pinned. I plan to do it in the near future. For now, I stick my head in the engine compartment before and after each session to sniff for any trace of coolant smell. On track, I have prepared myself for when I smell even the tiniest trace of coolant. I'd back off the pace immediately, pit, and inspect. Did that once this year, turned out the smell was from a 944 in front but regardless I thought it was the right move.

If you track the car get them pinned or welded. They don't warn you They just fail and fail in full measure. They don't piddle a bit the fitting pops out and the coolant charge spews out under about 15 psi.
